Dear members of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts,
after the presential election in November 2020, the new Presidium was constituted. Following the by.laws of the Academy, positions in the Academy such as deans and senate, members of the nomination committee and delegates of the countries were nominated step by step. You were asked to engage in these steps by calls of application. I thank all members of the Academy who supported us in this process of constitution.
Further on, with 1st March 2021, we start with a new staff in the Salzburg office. After the consensual resignation of the former staff, a finding committee of the presidium nominated Ms. Doris Klinda and Ms. Sofia Brunauer. The new team is distinguished by several qualifications. Doris Klinda speaks German, English, French, and Italian. In her former job as assistant to the board of the Main Association of Austrian Book Trade in the Palais Fürstenberg in Vienna, she organized conferences and assemblies and communicated with national and international institutions, just the requests of the office in Salzburg. Sofia Brunauer was trained in media informatics. Therefore, besides other tasks, she can support the Web performance of the Academy. Their E-Mail addresses are Doris.Klinda@euro-acad.eu and Sofia.Brunauer@euro-acad.eu We wish all the best for the new team in Salzburg. office team
After these legal and organisational steps of governance, it is now time to start with scientific activities in our classes. I like to encourage you to contact your deans with initiatives in favor of the Academy following our profile as European Academy. Due to Corona times, most of these activities must be online (e.g. Zoom). But, the great advantage of these online conferences and workshops is that, in principle, all our members can participate world wide without problems of time schedule and more or less expensive travelling. In the following schedule and events science news, you can find announcements of coming online-workshop, talks and conference of common interest. Please, inform the presidential office about your scientific activities in the future. A prestigious event will take place in September, when the Rings of Tolerance will be handed over in Cologne.
As further example, let me highlight another coming up event: At 28th January 2021, our honorable member, the Nobel Prize Laureat Paul Crutzen (1933-2021), passed away. Paul Crutzen was not only a distinguished natural scientist who explained the chemical-physical foundations of the ozon hole, but who engaged for the problems of the anthropocene and climate change. In June, we will have an online conference «Anthropocence and Climate Change. In Memory of Paul Crutzen». At that meeting, we will also announce that the Academy will annually award a Paul Crutzen medal for merits with respect to the responsibilty of mankind for climate and environment and practical applications. The medal will be awarded for the first time at the festive plenary in March 2022. According to the worldwide situation of Corona, the General Assembly 2021 is postponed by the Presidium to 24th September 2021.
I look forward to meet you online or, hopefully, with physical presence in a soon future.
With kind regards
President
